Sources and URL citations
URLs that AIs use as reference sources
Open the page in the appWhat this page reveals
When Perplexity, Google AIO and ChatGPT (in search mode) build a response, they cite sources — typically as clickable links at the end of the response. PivotSEO parses these citations and compiles the most frequently cited URLs in your market. It's a strategic goldmine: these URLs are the authority sources the AIs have chosen.
Table columns
- URL: the cited source address (clickable).
- Domain: automatic extraction (facilitates groupings by site).
- Citation count: how many times this URL was cited in your scans.
- Engines concerned: which engines cite it (ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.).
- Associated prompts: on which prompts this URL appears.
How to exploit this data
- Identify publications to target: if Reddit /r/personalfinance often appears on mortgage keywords, create an editorial presence there (documented responses on your topics).
- Detect authority media: an article from the Journal de Montréal cited on 10 prompts? Build media relations with them.
- Compare to competitors: cross-reference URLs cited when you're mentioned vs when it's a competitor. Differences reveal their sources of strength.
- Backlink opportunities: domains citing your competitors but not you are priority targets for link building.
Tip :Wikipedia strategy: if Wikipedia appears in your sources and you're not there, seriously consider getting a dedicated page for your brand. Wikipedia is cited by virtually all AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) as factual reference source.
