Bing is the search engine powering Microsoft Copilot and a significant portion of ChatGPT's integrated search (for factual queries with web search). A strong position on Bing mechanically increases your chances of being cited by these conversational AIs. Additionally, Bing Webmaster Tools provides its own query and click data, complementary to GSC, covering a non-negligible market segment (especially in North American B2B).
Get your Bing API key
- Go to bing.com/webmasters and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- If your site isn't already added, follow the verification process (HTML file at root, meta tag, or Google Search Console link which greatly accelerates the process).
- Once your site is verified, click your avatar at the top right of the Bing Webmaster interface.
- In the menu, select Settings > API Access, then click Generate API key.
- Copy the 32-character hexadecimal string. This key is equivalent to a password: never share it and don't store it in an unencrypted file.
Enter the key in PivotSEO
- In project Settings, scroll to the Bing Webmaster Tools connection section.
- Paste your key in the provided field.
- Click Connect Bing.
- The key is immediately encrypted in database (Fernet AES-128-CBC with HMAC) and never sent back to the frontend in clear after this save.
- Then go to Projects → open your project, and select the Bing site to associate in the auto-populated dropdown.
Tip :Shared vs dedicated keys: you can use the same Bing key for multiple PivotSEO projects if all your sites are verified under the same Microsoft account. In that case, remember to select the correct site in each project's dropdown.
Warning :Bing request quota: the Bing Webmaster API limits calls (generally to a few thousand per day). If you exceed, scans will temporarily return 429 errors. PivotSEO logs these errors in the API Costs page.
