App explorer — analyze competitors
Analyze any app on the stores, even ones you don't manage
Open the page in the appWhat this module is for
The App Stores module tracks YOUR app. The explorer analyzes any published app on the App Store or Google Play: a competitor, a market leader, or a prospect's app you don't manage yet. No app of your own is required — this is a market intelligence tool. Included from the Pro plan.
How to use it
- 1. Open App explorer in the sidebar.
- 2. Search for an app by name: the built-in App Store search fills in the identifier and tries to find the matching Android package automatically.
- 3. Or paste an App Store or Google Play URL directly into the fields — the identifier is extracted for you.
- 4. Add up to 5 apps to compare side by side.
- 5. Enter the compared keywords (one per line, max 10): you will see who ranks where on each.
- 6. Pick the country and language of the store to query.
- 7. Tick “Track weekly” if you want the analysis re-run during the Sunday scan to follow changes over time. Unticked, the analysis stays one-off.
- 8. Click Analyze — allow 1 to 5 minutes. You can leave the page, the result will be waiting.
What the analysis shows
- Listing comparison: title, rating, review count, number of visuals, last update date and audit score /100 for each app and each store.
- Ranking matrix: one row per keyword, one column per app — see at a glance who owns which query, plus the store's real top 3.
- User reviews: recent reviews for each app with the negative count — the best place to find what frustrates your competitors' customers.
- Keywords by territory: rather than imposing a list, the tool discovers queries in EACH store's autocomplete — it is localized, Canada's suggestions are not France's — then checks rankings in each ticked country (6 max). Free and instant, App Store only: the Play Store publishes no rankings.
- Category charts: your apps' rank in Apple's public charts, country by country. Three distinct charts — Free, Paid, Grossing — telling different stories: an app can top the first and be absent from the last. Verified on Marmiton: 42nd in Food & Drink in France, absent from the Canadian top 100. An empty rank means “outside the depth queried”, not “absent from the store”. Free, App Store only — Google Play publishes no comparable chart.
- Visual comparison (Claude): the apps' first screenshots are compared side by side — value proposition read in 2 seconds, legibility at thumbnail size, who sells best and why, the market's visual codes and angles none of them use. Two listings can fight over the same keyword and convert three times apart.
- Strategic read (Claude): who leads and why, each app's strengths and weaknesses, open angles (what no app covers) and concrete tactics worth borrowing.
Good to know
- An app in TestFlight beta cannot be analyzed: until it is published it has no public listing, no ranking and no reviews. The tool tells you explicitly instead of failing.
- A dash “—” in the matrix means the app does not appear in the top 100 results for that keyword.
- Results are kept for 168 hours: returning to the page does not trigger a new paid store call.
