AI Snippet Preview: capture the real AI answer

A dated screenshot of what Perplexity, Google and Gemini actually say

Open the page in the app

Every other page in PivotSEO counts and measures. This one photographs. You type a prompt, and the app opens the real answer page on Perplexity, the Google SERP (with its AI Overview) and Gemini, then screenshots them. The result is dated visual proof, ready to drop into a report or show in a meeting. You reach it through Content audits → Snippet Preview. Despite the name, this page is not about the Google snippet (title and meta description) but about what AI engines answer.

Capturing

  • Prompt to test: the question as a real person would ask it, not a keyword.
  • AI engines to capture: Perplexity and Google AIO are ticked by default, Gemini is one click away.
  • The Capture snippets button starts the run. Expect one to two minutes: engines are handled one after another, not in parallel.
  • A banner then states how many engines out of the total were captured, and reminds you the result was saved to the library.
  • Each thumbnail opens full size (eye icon) or downloads as a PNG (arrow icon), with a View on link to the source page.

The library

  • The Library tab lists the captures kept for the selected project, with engine, prompt, date and time.
  • The eye icon reopens a capture full size, the bin deletes it for good.
  • A capture is only saved if a project is selected when you launch it — otherwise it stays on screen and disappears when you leave the page.

What the engines really give you

  • ChatGPT is not supported: its anti-bot protection and mandatory login rule it out.
  • Gemini often blocks automated browsers and may return its sign-in page; the thumbnail then carries a warning instead of an answer.
  • Perplexity is the most reliable, with roughly an 80 % success rate.
  • Google AIO captures the top of the whole SERP; depending on the prompt, the AI Overview may simply not be there that day.

Why it earns its place in a mandate

Capture the same prompt before a page rewrite, then six weeks later: the pair of images explains a gain better than any table. It is also the most direct way to show a client that a competitor is cited in their place, or that the AI gets their offering wrong.

Tip :For the snippet shown in classic Google results (title tag and meta description), see the Meta tag generator article instead.
